Carriage Roads – Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park has 45 miles of Carriage Roads within the park. These roads are so beautiful and well maintained and perfect for biking and in the winter some allow for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. The roads were financed, directed and constructed with the help of John D. Rockefeller, Jr. between 1913 and 1940 and were originally used for hikers, bikers, horses and horse-drawn carriages. The carriage roads are some 57 miles of which 45 are within Acadia National Park. I think a bike ride is in store for my next trip back to Acadia.
