Chapel of the Transfiguration

The Chapel of the Transfiguration is a small log chapel in Grand Teton National Park, in the community of Moose, Wyoming. The chapel was sited and built to frame a view of the Cathedral Group of peaks in a large window behind the altar. This chapel was built in 1925 and is owned and operated by St. John’s Episcopal Church in Jackson, Wyoming.  It’s such a beautiful view out this altar window.

I used two photos to create this image (one for the window and one for the altar) and used a layer mask in Photoshop to create the image.  Here are the two images used to create the image:

I didn’t have enough time to create a video tutorial on doing a layer mask before my trip this week, but look for a tutorial using a layer mask soon. I have nothing against HDR images, I just prefer this blending technique for my landscapes and nature photos.

  • This is great Rick. I’m looking forward to the video tutorial.

  • Well done Rick. Just the thought of such a beautiful view when giving praise is appropriate here.

  • Beautifully composed Rick! I’m beginning to use layer masks more & more in my work -on very simple but powerful tool.

  • RIck…dude….this is AWESOME! I love the colors here, perfect composition and the processing is…well….let’s just say you nailed it!

  • This is fantastic Rick. That view looks like a painting hanging on the wall.

  • Great shot, Rick. The view out of the window almost looks like a picture in and of itself. Nice work, man.

I use masks quite a bit myself. Great way to bring in or eliminate certain elements of an image.

  • Rick, well done buddy. I would like to get a bit more in to the manual blending myself. HDR processing just is not giving me the types of results I would like these days. Perfect processing on this one.

  • Fantastic capture Rick! Well done with the framing. You nailed this!

  • Fantastic work Rick. Great vision!

  • Thats some really nice framing Rick!

  • NIce job Rick.
There’s no wrong way. HDR or Layers, as long as you complete your vision they’re both right.

  • That technique has worked really well. Layer masking is a topic I haven’t got the hang of so I look forward to your tutorial eagerly!
