Horseshoe Bend

This is Horseshoe Bend near the town of Page, Arizona in the Glen Canyon Recreation Area.  It’s a bend in the Colorado River that looks like a horseshoe. Ryan and I reached the parking lot just before sunset and of course it required a hurried pace to the view point to capture this place at sunset. It’s only a 1/2 mile hike, but no one told me it would be up a sandy hill. I think I’ve had too many lattes and cookies lately so I was huffing and puffing.  It’s time to work on my fitness during the winter months 🙂 .

You have probably seen this view before.  I was looking for a unique view, but it came back to this traditional view.  I decided to do a vertical panorama and so this image is a combination of vertical images to capture more of the detail. I was lucky enough to capture a few planes streaking across the sky and a houseboat moving to a new location during my captures to add some interest and perspective to the scene.

  • Rick…I’m running out of adjectives to describe your images. Simply fantastic!

  • Is that a boat in the river? I like the little streak in the sky as it provides something fun to look at up there. The amount of color and detail here is wicked!

    • Thanks! Yes it’s a house boat moving in the river below.

  • Terrific shot of this iconic location Rick. I was unable to get there on my trip as one of our friends we were traveling with fell ill. Good excuse to return.

  • Beautiful shot Rick!

  • Its a classic view for good reason. Great shot.
