Lakeside Seats

Today I’m taking you to the British Columbia side of Banff into Yoho National Park.  I didn’t get much shooting in at Yoho, so it’s definitely someplace I want to revisit the next time I go.  They had a controlled burn on the last day and so the smoke wasn’t going to make for good pictures.  The time in Yoho was spent near Emerald Lake.  It’s a wonderful area with a spectacular Winter Lodge (Emerald Lake Lodge) and a beautiful, lake set right up against Mount Stephen.  The area surrounding the lake is filled in the summer with wild flowers and orchids native to the area.  This scene really captured the area.  A great place just to sit relax and soak in the beauty!

Equipment Note:  My favorite lens in my bag is the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM.  It was my first Canon L lens and I use it almost exclusively.  It’s on my camera 90-95% of the time.  It’s so versatile for wide-angle landscapes to closeup low light portrait work.  Pictures from it are alway sharp and give me the flexibility to do some ad-hoc macro work if I need to while on the trail.

My friends at B&H PhotoVideo now have it on sale for $200 off of the normal price until Thanksgiving!  If you are a Canon shooter, this is the lens to have!  Check it out!

  1. Wonderful shot of a wonderful place Rick. I only was able to spend a few hours at Emerald Lake and like you need to go back and spend some more time. Have a Great Thanksgiving.

  2. What a perfect scene you’ve captured here Rick. Incredible composition and incredible colors. Love everything about this shot. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving man.

  3. This is just such a perfect composition. Everything is where it should be…the chairs, the canoe, the way the clouds seem to be rising from the mountain. Just fantastic Rick.

  4. Don’t think we made this lake on our round trip of BC. What a beautiful sky and the water – what can I say….Canadian turquoise blue. Isn’t that a fantastic colour. I’ve found it once in the Alps – must post that one day

  5. Tremendous shot, Rick. A really great scene here. The canoe in the shot, while small by comparison, plays a large role in making this scene perfect.

    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, man.

  6. Beautiful image! I haven’t been to Banff in many moons but this image really makes me want to go back. I almost bought that 24-70 last year but because of the weight I ended up going with the 24-105, which I love. I always wonder about the other one though.
