Storm Clouds Over The Brooklyn Bridge

I met up with NY based photographer Jose Vasquez last Monday and he gave me a little tour around Brooklyn Heights.  Jose, thanks for being so hospitable.  Be sure to check out some of Jose’s work.  He does some amazing things his iPhone.

Just as the sun was about to set, the storm clouds came over so the sunset was a little disappointing so I decided to turn lemon into lemonade.  The sun was still peaking through the clouds so I was able to do some high contrast work which made for some interesting black and whites. I used my B + W 10X filter to create give the clouds some movement and add some drama to the scene with a long exposure.

One of the most interesting details of the Brooklyn Bridge is the suspension webbing and the interesting patterns it creates.  I was able to capture the detail in contrast as the sun made for an amazing contrast highlighting the webbing of the bridge.

Capture Notes:

  • Awesome shot Rick. Beautiful long exposure.

  • Wow, that looks so awesome man. Funny, one of the first things that I thought of when I got my filter was getting this shot next week! Really well execute for sure!

  • I like how the bridge support have a nice clearing in the sky to make it look as though they are some supernatural structure. Nice work on this!

  • This is a wonderful Black and White Rick. I like the highlights above the pillar and the shadows throughout.

  • Love the bw treatment and your comp. The backlighting is perfect for this.

  • Sweet image sir. Like the dark look.

  • Great image, Rick. Your choice of B&W is perfect. Love the comp on this and those smooth clouds.
