Sunset in the Black Canyon

Let’s get this week started with a sunset!  Last month I took a trip down the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.  The Black Canyon is located in western Colorado and is one of America’s National Parks.  It’s know for its deep dark canyon walls that have been cut through by the Gunnison River.  The Black Canyon is appropriately named on account of its steepness which makes it difficult for sunlight to penetrate very far down the canyon.  My trip to the Black Canyon was unfortunately met with a rainy weekend so my opportunities to capture the canyon were not ideal.  It didn’t help me in my fishing either.

This sunset was on the second night of my stay.  The clouds had opened up long enough for the sun to peak through during sunset.  It created some dramatic skies and so sometimes you have to take what Mother Nature gives you.  This picture is from the South Rim at Sunset View, which is the place in the park known for viewing the sunset.

Have a great week, everyone!

Capture Notes:

  • Great luck with at least catching the sun in that small gap Rick. Wonderful clouds and love the sunburst. I love that park.

  • That’s a cool shot. I’ve been to the Black Canyon several times. Its pretty amazing, and I know people who prefer it over the Grand Canyon if only because you can get your head around it. Hard to get to, but worth it.

  • Wow!

  • Nice catch Rick!

  • Gorgeous shot Rick! I’ve never been to this area.

  • This is just amazing Rick, I love that little flare! Outstanding man.

  • Nice sunburst. Looks the sky is trying to squash the sun out! Great image.

  • Beautiful shot! Really well done! The sunburst looks fantastic. Looks like a sweeeet location.
