There is plenty of farm and pasture land on the eastern plains of Colorado. Farming and ranching is still very prevalent on the eastern plains so it’s not uncommon to see herds of animals grazing in the pastures along the side of the road. Driving along a this dirt road as I was heading back to the highway I noticed this lone bull grazing. It just looked like the a wonderful scene to capture. I could tell by the way the bull was licking his lips he didn’t want anything to do with me so I quickly took a shot and went on my way. Just another slice of Americana out on the plains of Colorado.
It’s that time of year here in Colorado and on the midwestern plains where storms are starting to form in the afternoon. Here in the Denver area we have already seen tornadoes. I know in the midwest they have also experiences some severe weather and tornadoes. My heart and prayers go out to those who have had to endure hardship already. For storm chasers, this is prime season and we will probably benefit from seeing some amazing images as a result of these storms.
This past week here in Colorado we experienced quite a few severe storms across the state. A number of evenings storms brought heavy winds and rains and this past weekend Mother Nature decided that we needed a little more winter and dropped up to 8″ inches in parts of Colorado. It made for a chilly weekend.
I was lucky enough to capture some storm clouds rolling east of town just as the sun was setting in the west this past week. It’s a mix of cold with warmth, beauty and darkness.
Here in Denver we have been enjoying the warm spring weather. This past weekend we reached the mid 80’s and was getting used to the warm weather. Yesterday Mother Nature had another plan and provided us with a blanket of snow that will stay with us for a couple of days. I’m glad I fertilized the yard last night before the storm hit.
I’m still ready for the warm summer weather and so it had me looking back over my photo library from this past summer and I discovered this image. I can’t believe I never processed it, but sometimes it take a second look at an image to realize you have something worth sharing.
This image reminded me of one of the verses in a classic children’s prayer:
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep,
Lord, be with me through the night
And keep me ’til the morning light.
I went out to High Plains Raceway this past weekend to capture some shots of the local Porsche Club doing their final club track event of the season. The race track is about 75 minutes east of town out on the Eastern Plains. I got up a little early and headed out toward the track and to catch the morning light out on the Eastern Plains here in Colorado. I drove past the track about another 10 miles and found some unique textures in the landscape. As the sun was coming up I looked back to the west toward town and noticed some amazing clouds and colors coming off of the horizon from the sunrise. I ran out to the middle of the road and setup for the shot. There wasn’t any traffic on this rural highway, just me, the sunrise and this great morning color! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
