The Mall

This is The Mall in Central Park.  It’s also known as the Grand Promenade.  The southern end of the mall contains an area known as the Literary Walk that is populated with a series of sculptures depicting popular literary figures.  The Mall is a place for visitors to come and socialize and an alternative to the secluded paths inside Central Park.  The Mall is lined on both sides with large majestic American Elm trees.  This is a popular spot filming location for movies.  I remember it in scenes from  When Harry Met Sally, Kramer vs. Kramer, Serendipity, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and Big Daddy.

  1. That’s a beautiful spot. Sadly the City lost close to 1,000 trees during last week’s storm. Since the leaves hadn’t yet fallen, the snow brought down many branches.

  2. Nice shot, Rick. A beautiful scene indeed.

I’ll be heading to Brooklyn in a few weeks. I wonder what I’ll find in the park after reading Kris Koeller’s comment.
