Up, Up and Away!

This past weekend in Colorado Springs was the annual Colorado Balloon Classic, the largest and the longest continuously running hot air balloon festival in the Rocky Mountain Region.  This year the festival ran into a bit of bad weather and the ascension was cancelled on the first day.  I went down for the festival and caught the ascension on the final day.  The weather was perfect for the balloons to rise over Colorado Springs.  I saw a photographer next to me doing some time-lapse.  I may have to give that a try next year.  One of these days I’d like to make it down to Albuquerque for the International Balloon Fiesta which is larger than this festival.  It’s such a wonderful sight to see the bright-colored balloons over Prospect Lake with the mountains in the background and crystal blue skies.

Come back tomorrow and I’ll treat you to some star-gazing from Mt. Evans!

Capture Notes:

  • Beautiful colors in the balloons and the sky Rick! I would love to see a mass balloon ascent one of these days.

  • Looks like something out of a storybook, Rick. Awesome shot, man. Love these vivid colors and the reflections on the water.

  • Great images Rick. Love the colors and reflections. I am so jealous that you have these balloon festivals. We have nothing like it in New England. I so want to move to Colorado but have yet to convince my wife.

  • Fantastic Rick. Perfect framing and I love the way you’ve caught the reflection of the ballons on the water.

  • This is awesome! I’ve never been to this. My Grandma lived in the Springs for awhile. Great capture of the colors though! Love the reflection in the water.

  • Great vivid colours and the reflections. Stunning shot!

  • Man, if I were in that balloon just above the water, I would so be freaking out. I love all the wonderful color in this shot, and the mountains in the back are a nice touch!
