Where the Buffalo Roam

The Buffalo or Bison is an amazing animal.  You normally see them grazing in the field, but you don’t get the wild idea they are docile.  During the two visits to Grand Teton National Park, I’ve seen them jump a 4-5 foot fence with no problem and they are fast when they want to be fast.  One particular tourist to the park decided he was going to get an up close picture of the bison along the side of the road.  When bison start snorting and licking their lips, it means back off! The bull came after the tourist and left him with some road rash as the tourist ran away and slipped on the pavement, camera crashing to the ground.  Luckily it was just a warning charge to stay away from his herd.

Fantastic shot Rick! I love the blue of the mountains.

  • Fantastic shot Rick! Well done!

  • Great shot Rick. What an incredible backdrop.

  • Awesome shot, Rick! What a scene. This is straight out of the old west. 😉

  • Great shot Rick. The contrast of the buffalo against the grass is spot on, not to mention the fabulous background. I am often amazed how stupid tourists can be when they see any kind of wild animal.

  • Really beautiful Rick. I love the contrast between those incredible mountains and the buffalo.

  • Beautiful shot. Quite a scene!

  • Two in a row of the Tetons – both great but if I had to choose I would go for the one you posted yesterday – the way the foreground followed the shape of the Grand Teton was brilliant. But both have this contrast between the hazy blue of the mountains and the foreground golds.

  • Great shot Rick! This is definitely a scene you don’t see just anywhere!

  • Love hearing stupid tourist stories. Beautiful pic Rick. Love the scale of the mountains.

  • Haha, nice little story. I always use a bit of caution when I am around these wild animals. This is an awesome shot. I could see this one in a magezine somewhere… Beautiful.

  • What a great shot! I think I got a little nervous just looking at these powerful beasts, let alone thinking of jumping a fence to get CLOSER! Not too bright, really. Great picture, though, Rick, absolutely top drawer, my friend!

  • Nice one! Love those wildlife images.

  • Awesome shot. I got separated between my car and had to stand around for about a half hour waiting for them to split. Worth the wait I guess. Interesting colors in this photo. The mountains are so blue.
