Ryan, Chase and I had originally planned to go to the Great Sand Dunes, but with a snow storm coming in a venture 4+ hours away didn’t sound like a great decision, especially if we had to weather a storm coming back in the Denver area. We decided to head up to Rocky Mountain National Park early and hopefully in the early part of the expected snow to get some pictures.

Reaching the trailhead, the snow was coming down at a slow steady pace. It made for some amazing Winter Wonderland, with snow accumulating on the trees making them look like large cotton balls. We went up the Storm Pass Trail and the scenes did not disappoint. By the time we turned around our tracks were covered looking like virgin snow trails.

After a short hike up Storm Pass trail, we headed over toward Moraine Park and saw some beautiful Mule Deer and Elk grazing in the snow. Since the roads were getting icy, we grabbed a quick bite to eat and then headed down Big Thompson Canyon into Loveland and captured a few scenes along the Big Thompson River covered in snow.

Some times you just have to head out into the elements and embrace them. It was worth getting cold and wet and enjoying all that Colorado has to offer. Here are the images from that day. Also check out My Blog for some images I captured on Ilford Delta 3200 film that day.
